The Society To End Homelessness In Burnaby exists to provide leadership and collaborative planning towards the reduction and ultimately, resolution of homelessness in Burnaby. The Society To End Homelessness In Burnaby is now seeking Board Members to further our goals and contribute to the strategic development of this vital charity.
The Society is dedicated to a collaborative approach of working with non-profits, housing and service providers, government, police, health care providers, business, faith community and the public towards the accomplishment of our goals. The Society supports the work of the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness to provides assistance to Burnaby’s homeless population through: striving to develop housing solutions for people living in poverty, increasing the awareness of homelessness in Burnaby, supporting the Burnaby Extreme Weather Response, Homeless Outreach Program, Outreach Resource Centre and other associated services, organizing Homelessness Action Week and other events and
providing a conduit for community donations and support.
The Society To End Homelessness In Burnaby is looking for individuals who have the following skills and experiences:
i. An understanding of issues surrounding homelessness in Burnaby and its impact on vulnerable Burnaby citizens
ii. Enthusiasm for the work of the non-profit sector
iii. Experience on boards
We are seeking team members with the following experience and expertise:

o Strategic planning
o Policy development
o Grant writing
o Fundraising
o Community engagement
o Financial accounting
o Legal expertise
o Administration
o Program facilitation
o Housing expertise

The Nominating Committee will be inviting representation from the following categories to serve as Board Members: municipality, health authority, aboriginal community, and immigrant community, service providers, community organizations, service clubs, faith communities, concerned citizens and people who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
Because of the need for non-partiality and confidentiality, Board Membership is not open to elected officials, political candidates or media representatives.
Time Commitment: As a working Board, you will be expected to commit to attend monthly meetings of 2 to 3 hours in length; plus an additional 5 to 6 hours per month to assist with committee work, action items, donation management and/or event planning.
Term: You will need to commit to a two-year term, with elections/re-elections held at the annual AGM.
