On Oct 28, 2019 Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and Council awarded Marianne Buesink, volunteer with Burnaby’s Extreme Weather Response, as one of 6 Local Heroes! The Society nominated Marianne for her voluntary work with the Society. Marianne is generous, kind, humble & caring and has touched many people through her leadership in providing food & shelter to Burnaby’s homeless. She recruits volunteers & organizes help for the provision of meals & supplies. She willingly takes on tasks day & night to support the EWR and helps set up the sheltering site each opening offering her welcoming, non-judgmental approach to everyone. A volunteer for 9+ years, she also brings her expertise to Burnaby’s annual Extreme Weather Plan, working to prevent harm to people whose health is extremely vulnerable.
