“At the direction of City Council, the City of Burnaby operated four warming centers this past fall and winter.
These centres are located at:
- 5889 Curtis Street (Kensington Pitch & Putt Fieldhouse)
- 3883 Imperial Street (Swangard Stadium’s Hospitality Room)
- 5970 Beresford Street (In a City Operations Centre)
- 6749 Nelson Avenue (South Central Youth Centre).
The centres have been open seven nights a week, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., except the centre at South Central Youth Centre, which is open 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. The centres have provided a safe, welcoming space to anyone in need.
Now that the weather is warming up three centres (Kensington, Swangard and South Central Youth Centre) will close the morning of March 31 (the evening of March 30 will be the last night these three centres will remain open). The centre located in the City Operations Centre on Beresford will remain open until further notice.
The City is currently developing a warming centre plan for 2019-2020, and will have more information to share in the coming weeks.”
