The Burnaby Mobile Shower Program offers our clients weekly access to the necessity of a hot shower to help people maintain their health and wellness. It also helps to combat the stigma caused by poor hygiene common amongst those living outside or couch-surfing.
Showers will be available on a first-come first-serve basis, with a maximum of six users per hour, totalling to a maximum of 12 guests per session. Guests are provided with fresh towels, hygiene supplies and a set of clean gently used clothing to wear. They are also linked to the Outreach Resource Centres and other services.
Our two stall trailer bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet and wash basin. The units are insulated and heated as well as air conditioned for use in all seasons. The bathrooms are equipped with a touchless faucet sink, a hand dryer, and a Magic Mirror with built in Radio & Bluetooth. The unit is equipped with a unique system on the market of systematic disinfection by UV-Light and antibacterial walls.
We would like to thank the City of Burnaby and the Union of the British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) for the initial funding of our shower program. However, the program requires ongoing funding to allow it to continue to be available to guests.
That is why we have partnered with The tiptap Foundation for the continued operation of the Burnaby Mobile Shower Program. The tiptap Foundation supports this initiative by providing tiptap devices to support donation collections that will be used to maintain the shower initiative as well provide additional sanitary equipment in years to come.
If you would like to host a tiptap device at your business or organization, please contact us at info@burnabyhomeless.org with the subject line: “TipTap Device Request”.
